Into the Arms of Life

I will not be defeated
I am too old for that now,
beyond the fear of being torn down in the street
or lifted by the hopeful gust of southerly wind;
my feet are moving
to a rhythm and sound
created from the earth of my own bones,
the tissue and cell giving up their light,
the grizzled happiness
I’ve been walking toward forever
lit by the fire that will not go out,
burning in the cells of my deepest being,
erupting now as if this was my birth,
again today, through MY beloved body,
into the arms of Life.
