Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said he’ll accept the result of the election, just hours after he cast doubt on the election process.

Biden told supporters in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 10 that “the only way we lose this is by the chicanery going on relative to polling places.”

He referred to President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions that the election is “rigged,” and the problems with an unprecedented ramp-up of mail-in ballots, such as discarded and rejected ballots.

“Not a single solitary reasonable person in either party has said mail-in ballots are corrupt,” Biden claimed.

“No evidence, but he’s trying to make it sound that way. Trying to put people in polling places.”

Speaking to reporters after the rally, Biden said people were twisting what he said.

“I understand one of the comments I made was taken a little out of context. I’m going to accept the outcome of this election, period. And I think all Americans have to do is vote. Show up and vote. They’re going to determine this,” Biden said.

“What I was referencing is the attempts that are made to try to influence and scare people from voting. You should not pay attention to them. The American people are voting, they’re voting in large numbers, they’re going to determine the outcome, and I’m going to accept the outcome of the election without any questions.”

Trump said last month that he would respect the outcome of the election result if it was certified by the Supreme Court.

“We’re going to have to see what happens,” he said. “You know that I’ve been complaining very strongly about the ballots, and the ballots are a disaster.”

Trump on Oct. 12 shared on Twitter a picture of mail allegedly dumped by a U.S. Postal Service employee, including ballots, and a story about nearly 50,000 inaccurate ballots sent to voters in Ohio.

“A Rigged Election!” he wrote.
