Title: "Resurrection"

Main Photo: H. Clinton spreading her arms out.

This could be an addition to the New Hampshire issue.

The letter my cousin sent:

Re: "The Detroit News", Wednesday, January 9, 2008 Edition's front page headlines, "Resurrection: Clinton , McCain win N.H."

"Resurrection". Really? As if that weren't enough, beneath the bold word "Resurrection" on your paper's front page you displayed a large photograph of Hillary Clinton at a podium with outstretched arms in a posture similar to that of Jesus Christ in the sign of the cross. Please tell me this is not your conservative view of this particular iteration of the long, laborious process of Presidential Primary Elections? For a brief moment this morning, I'd thought someone had goofed and laid a copy of the "New York Times"on my doorstep!

It is my opinion that your choice to use the word "resurrection", which is normally associated with the rising of Jesus Christ, coupled with that very divisive, photo as your headline to describe a victory of two political candidates of a lousy primary (much less any election), was both socially and editorially irresponsible. Considering many people is this country liken politicians to a level barely above that of scum, it irks me that you should choose to use such an over-dramatization for the face of this morning's paper.

I had originally switched to your newspaper over the "other one" because I believed it to be the more conservative of the two. Yet, their headline this morning read, "Clinton , McCain win in a night of comebacks" together with tightly-cropped images of both candidates. I consider that an accurate and conservative view of what actually happened rather than the "drive-by media"agenda your paper seems to be adopting. Please get back in line with your readers' expectations and cut the hype of which we are all already so inundated.

WHAT THEY POSTED:

Are Hillary Clinton and John McCain's primary victories in New Hampshire really a "resurrection" (Jan. 9)? If that weren't enough, The News displayed a photograph of Hillary Clinton with outstretched arms in a posture similar to that of Jesus Christ in the sign of the cross. It is socially and editorially irresponsible.

The first sentence clearly is meant to take the origional argument out of context.
