A surging third-party candidate for Colorado governor says one of the first things he'd do if elected is to take a strong stance against federal intrusion by telling the Obama administration to "go pound sand" with its stimulus money.

The comment came today from Tom Tancredo, the outspoken former congressman, who was interviewed on Glenn Beck's radio program.

Tancredo said among his first priorities is to call other governors, including New Jersey's Chris Christie and Arizona's Jan Brewer to team up against what he feels is an overreaching federal government.

"What I will ask them to do is to join me in launching a Tenth Amendment revolution in this country," said Tancredo.

The Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Tancredo continued, "If you can get a few governors together to really band together and make a line in the sand and say, 'You know, you're not coming any farther, federal government. This is the state of Colorado, Arizona, New Jersey. There is nothing more that we need from you or want from you, and, as a matter of fact, you can take your stimulus money and go pound sand with it.'"

According to online dictionaries, there are numerous definitions for "pound sand," ranging from the equivalent of "get lost" and "go fly a kite" to "a crude invitation to do something unnatural with sand and the male reproductive organ."

Tancredo is no stranger to making controversial remarks.

In an exclusive interview with WND in 2006, the then-congressman said the city of Miami, Fla., had become a "Third World country" due to America's illegal immigration situation.

"You just pick it up and take it and move it someplace," Tancredo said. "You would never know you're in the United States of America. You would certainly say you're in a Third World country."

Tancredo's remark today about pounding sand was music to Beck's ears, who said, "Oh, I love this."

Beck even raised the possibility of moving to Colorado or another western state, saying, "I am looking for a place to relocate at least myself. ... I'm telling you it is going to be Texas and the mountain West that saves this country. It really will be."

Just a month ago, Tancredo, running with the American Constitution Party, was considered a long shot to win the race for governor against Democrat John Hickenlooper. But Tancredo has skyrocketed in the polls in recent weeks.

"It really is incredible," said Tancredo. "We have come up over 30 points in a little over three and a half weeks."

The possibility of Tancredo becoming Colorado's governor thrilled Beck, who noted, "It'll drive the rest of the country and the Left out of their mind."
