The Dark Renewal
The inward breath balances the outer
receiving and giving in equal measure,
to rest and then to act upon the pivot,
the life source and fulcrum of the cell,
the organism, the personality, the planet.
I appear among many and abide in secret,
the alternating pulse of my deepest desire.
I know my orbit, the confusion with death resolved
as each wild thing with its brilliant eye
looks forever toward its freedom.
Going within, I am not lost in the interior,
the dimension and depth of the cave familiar.
I am gathering, beginning the dark renewal,
finding my way along the deepening ledges
for the place of rest from which to spring.
