The Soul’s Promise

“I am not a mechanism, an assembly of various sections.

And it is not because the mechanism is working wrongly,

 that I am ill.”

To understand the soul and its deadly malady,

how so many die to life before the grave

fearing to live what their soul would ask,

following robotically the numbing determinants

prescribing each ritualized step

of a life without appetite or taste.

There is a reason for the madness

the soul’s voice disturbing, without peace,

a constant movement like the pulse across the sea

with no respect for the for the dull immobility

accepted so readily, the coffin more welcome

than the awakened life with all its trouble.

We live in a graveyard of what might have been,

the umbilical to our destinies cut upon society’s altars

of commerce and religion, tradition and belief,

for to live is the adventure

and forever disturbed the soul’s promise,

to create the stories that would not have been

had our humble lives not graced the Earth.
