Strength to Cross Over

The sky is closing on the events of the past.
We are hours from dawn
and the illumination of our future.
Plodding, stumbling, feeling
in the dark for recognizable shapes,
the human destiny to connect
with the author revealing
an alliance of intangible love
speaking through the subtle shapes
of the disappearing world of nature.
Without those messages
there is only the inner map
and the wading through darkness.
We will find our destination
although we ruin the expression
of its creator.
There will be forgiveness,
letting go of the harsh realities
dominant in these wilderness years.
We are not to the river yet
but when we arrive we’ll need
every ounce of strength we’ve gathered
to cross over.
