Soros: European Union in mortal danger

David Reid — CNBC April 12, 2016

Billionaire financier George Soros has warned that the European Union is in mortal danger of collapse if it doesn’t agree a massive cash injection to fix the refugee crisis.

In an essay written for the New York Review of Books, Soros also claimed that a humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in Greece.

“The asylum seekers are desperate. Legitimate refugees must be offered a reasonable chance to reach their destinations in Europe,” the investor wrote in the publication.

“EU leaders need to embrace the idea that effectively addressing the crisis will require “surge” funding, rather than scraping together insufficient funds year after year. Spending a large amount at the outset would allow the EU to respond more effectively to some of the most dangerous consequences of the refugee crisis.”

Pushed by civil war and terror and pulled by the promise of a better life, more than a million migrants and refugees fled the Middle East and Africa in 2015 and crossed into Europe.

Now a deal is in place so anyone arriving illegally in Greece will be returned to Turkey if their asylum application is rejected.

In exchange for every person sent back, the EU will resettle one Syrian refugee currently trapped in Turkish camps.

In his essay, Soros said the number of refugees Europe can absorb each year should be between 300,000 and 500,000.

He wrote this sweet-spot number can be accommodated by European countries but will also assure those genuinely seeking asylum that they won’t be turned away.

And the financier estimated at least $34 billion (€30 billion) a year will be needed for the EU to carry his plan.

“Thirty billion might sound like an enormous sum, but it is not when viewed in proper perspective. First, we must recognize that a failure to provide the necessary funds would cost the EU even more. There is a real threat that the refugee crisis could cause the collapse of Europe’s Schengen system of open internal borders among twenty-six European states,” he said.

“When should the triple-A credit of the EU be mobilized if not at a moment when it is in mortal danger?”

For ongoing funding, Soros suggested the European Commission’s Multiannual Financial Framework, Europe’s long term spending plan, should be amended to increase VAT contributions.

But he argued a separate ‘surge’ funding is needed more urgently to stem the unfolding crisis and claimed existing mechanisms are in place.

Soros said the European Financial Stabilization Mechanism (EFSF) and the Balance of Payments Assistance Facility currently contain $68 billion (€60 billion) of unused funding that Europe should disperse.

The billionaire said these vehicles can be used to leverage Europe’s easy credit terms.

“Throughout history, governments have issued bonds in response to national emergencies. That is the case in Europe today. When should the triple-A credit of the EU be mobilized if not at a moment when the European Union is in mortal danger?” Soros said.

Of course this “crisis” was created by Soros in the first place, together with NATO and some of the West’s leaders. For one of the organisations that George Soros helped finance, the Open Society Foundation is now actively engaged in encouraging migrants to seek refuge in Europe.

Ostensibly a non-profit organisation, the Foundation and others like it are assisting migrants with handbooks, maps and websites to guide them.

So it’s no exaggeration to say that Soros had a hand in creating the migrant crisis. And his proposed solution to it? That Europe absorb an additional half million migrants annually, to be bankrolled by the EU to the tune of 34 billion euros per annum.

Of course, European taxpayers will be expected to cough up the funds for this. Not Soros. But for the billionaire financier and his kind it’s a sweet deal because at no extra cost it will provide them with a reservoir of cheap labour.

Moreover with many of the migrants coming from country’s where salaries are much lower than in Europe, pay rates will eventually be depressed across the continent, especially for menial work. So it’s a win-win situation for Soros and his kind: cheap lower and lowered salaries.

What is really amazing about this current crisis is that no one in the corporate media is raising any serious questions about George Soros’s role in it. Instead we get the standard line that having been a refugee himself, Soros naturally wants to help those in a similar plight today.

However, this tends to overlook the fact the Soros appears to be working hand-in-glove with NATO and those European heads of state who seem ready to sell their own people down the line.

So while the West launched military campaigns in Iraq and Libya that initially triggered the waves of migrants, Western intelligence agencies have added to their number by conducting a covert campaign using Islamic State (ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) to oust Assad in Syria.

Russian intervention prevented that but it didn’t stop waves of migrants leaving a war ravaged Syria in the hope of a better life. Moreover, they were joined by many others with an eye on the main chance. While migrant numbers only grew after Frau Merkel opened Germany’s borders and offered them refuge with the sort of social benefits they would never previously have dreamt of.

With such encouragement and assistance it’s little wonder that nearly a million migrants entered Germany in the last year alone. For someone coming from Syria or Iraq or Libya Merkel’s offer to migrants must seem almost too good to be true.

But we shouldn’t kid ourselves because these things don’t happen in isolation. Apart from creating the groundwork for a greater Israel, Western military interventions have served no one other than to create waves of migrants. Together with Merkel’s encouragement and assistance from George Soros it’s almost a forgone conclusion that millions will leave their homelands in search of a better life.

If we want to solve the crisis we need to look at its roots: our political leaders who authorised the military campaigns that triggered the migrations in the first place; the oligarchs who are directing the migrants towards Europe and the political flunkies who are encouraging them.

Of course I’m not suggesting that this is a “Conspiracy”. These are usually conducted in secret whereas this is all hard fact and in your face. You just have to connect the dots to see the darker overall design behind it.
