Nobody does it like the Italians…..Sicilian Governor Lombardi, under investigation for alleged ties to the Mafia,  first says he will resign and now says he won’t (‘Go to Hell’). Italian Premier Monti, who has already imposed severe austerity measures in the mainland’s 20 provinces, is now demanding Lombardo quit so he, Monti, can come in and slash Sicily to (hopefully) prevent its looming default. Bankrupt Italy now wants to take over bankrupt Sicily. Also, Sicily has 24,000 Park Rangers who the governor insists, “none can be fired, and certainly not murdered.” Isn’t it interesting how murder is always an option in Sicily?.... Also, what kind of government has rules that say you can’t lay off workers you don’t need?....  Sicily is Greece……….Italy is Greece..... Ya’ can’t make this stuff up!........    ...Thomas Lombari

Italian premier Mario Monti is mulling emergency action  to take direct control of Sicily’s regional government before the island spirals into a full-blown financial crisis, fearing contagion to the rest of Italy.

Sicily’s regional councillor Andrea Vecchio warned that the island has run out of money. “I’m afraid we will soon no longer be able to pay civil servants’ salaries,” he said.

The full extent of Sicily’s crisis came to light just before Moody’s downgraded a string of Italian regions, cutting many to levels even lower than Sicily. Piedmont, Abruzzo, Calabria, Lazio, and Campania were all slashed. The City of Naples fell to junk status, plagued by “systemic pressure” from a deep social and economic crisis.

Sicily Governor Rebuts Job-Cut Pressure, Saying ‘Go to Hell’

The Sicilian Forestry Department employs about 24,000 workers, according to its website. That compares with 404 park rangers employed by the Northern Italian region of Piedmont and the 600 by Lombardy, according to the magazine Panorama.

“I think about half that number would be enough to do the job they do,” Lombardo said of Sicily’s forestry staff in a televised interview with Sky TG24. “But they were hired in the past, they’re not fireable and they certainly can’t be murdered.”
