We sent this message yesterday from a frigid rescue in Arkansas, and I wanted to make sure you saw it. The animals are now in a warm, clean environment for what is likely the first time in a long time. Our staff and volunteers are taking great care of them.

Dripping with icicles.

I'm not just talking about the buildings or cars around me; I'm talking about dogs.

Right now I'm in Randolph County, Arkansas, assisting with the rescue of 57 animals -- including 46 dogs, some chained up outside as the piercingly cold wind whips across the yard.

No animal should ever be forced to live outside in this -- I have on multiple layers and I'm shivering clear to my bones.

Animal Rescue Team

This is a puppy mill. As I've seen in situations like this before, we find animals in a very bad way -- at the mercy of an industry that uses them just to make a buck. Please help us rescue more animals like them by donating to support the work of our Animal Rescue Team.

As each animal is pulled into warm, loving arms, the same question weighs on my mind as it does during every rescue: How could any animal be treated this way?

Honestly, it's such a relief right now just knowing that you're there, Patrick -- on the side of compassion, on the side of decency, on the side of animals.

We have a long way to go before stamping out this type of cruelty for good; but it's a climb worth making. With your support, we will continue -- one step at a time -- always.

Patrick, you can count on The Humane Society of the United States to be there on the ground when animals are in need of rescue. But rescue is only part of the equation. We're equally committed to addressing this issue on the legislative front in 2015.

Arkansas does not have a single law to protect dogs in commercial breeding facilities, and our Stop Puppy Mills campaign team is working right now to get a bill drafted and introduced.

In the meantime, 57 animals who've been denied care and attention for far too long are receiving much-needed vet exams. Without your unending love and support, rescues like today's would not happen. Please consider making a donation to your Animal Rescue Team now.

Thank you so much for your compassion.
