We’re counting on your generous support to help defend whales from this devastating airgun assault. Please make an emergency gift today that will help us take on Big Oil. Thank you.

As I alerted you last week, the Obama Administration has opened up most of the Eastern seaboard to dangerous oil and gas exploration using deafening seismic airguns -- threatening thousands of whales, dolphins and other marine mammals.

The explosive noise from this acoustic onslaught will injure as many as 138,000 marine mammals and devastate fishermen and coastal communities from New Jersey down to Florida -- all to enrich a handful of oil and gas companies.

NRDC is swinging into action -- but we need your support to take on the government and the oil giants.

Please donate now to help us save whales and keep the East Coast off-limits to Big Oil!

Your tax-deductible gift will enable us to mobilize nationwide pressure on President Obama to withdraw approval of this ill-conceived plan ... arm media outlets with the damning facts about the deadly consequences of this acoustic onslaught ... work with local groups up and down the East Coast to organize opposition ... and prepare to wage this fight in federal court if that’s what it takes to protect the thousands of whales that feed, migrate and breed off our Eastern seaboard.

We’ve already seen the catastrophic impacts of the oil and gas industry’s foray into the Gulf of Mexico. I’m sure you agree: we must not stand by and let the fragile, wildlife-filled waters off the East Coast become Big Oil’s next victim.

The seismic search for oil will involve arrays of underwater airguns -- their blasts dynamite-loud -- firing up and down the coast every ten seconds for weeks or months at a time. It is nothing less than a major assault on marine life.

And directly in the line of acoustic fire are some 500 remaining North Atlantic right whales, one of the most endangered species of whales on the planet! So great is the noise that right whales would be threatened off the coast of New England, hundreds of miles away from the seismic activity. We simply must intervene at once.

Please make an emergency donation so we can fight back hard -- and go to court if necessary -- to save the North Atlantic right whale as well as thousands of other marine mammals and defend our environment in the most effective way possible.

I hope you stand with us and compel the Obama Administration to reverse this awful decision -- and spare thousands of marine mammals from needless suffering, injury and death.

I hope I can count on your generous gift today. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Frances
