Stop the Poisoningn of Prairie Dogs

In Wyoming, prairie dogs are slowly recovering from decades of hunting and disease, and Thunder Basin National Grassland contains some of their last protected habitat. But the U.S. Forest Service is considering a plan to poison any prairie dog colonies on the Grassland within a quarter-mile of private or state land. They could kill an estimated 16,000 prairie dogs, which are essential to the survival of many other species. Urge the Forest Service to reject this heartless and misguided plan.

Victory: Rio Tinto Divests from Pebble Mine!

Our long-running campaign to stop the destructive Pebble Mine has scored another interim victory: Rio Tinto, one of the largest mining companies in the world, has abandoned its stake by donating its shares in the project to two Alaskan charities. The company's decision follows that of Mitsubishi and Anglo American, which have both withdrawn under intense public pressure. In other good news, the EPA has taken a critical first step toward stopping the mine by initiating a process under the Clean Water Act to protect Bristol Bay's extraordinary resources. Thanks to all of our BioGems Defenders who have spoken out against the Pebble Mine! Learn more.
