It's time: STOP IDAHO.

April 10, 2014

Idaho has made it clear that it plans to kill as many wolves as possible. It’s time to take decisive action.

That’s why Defenders has formally demanded that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) immediately take the first step toward restoring Endangered Species Act protection to wolves in Idaho and other Northern Rockies states.

Please help us with urgent donation today!

Last week, we officially requested that FWS initiate a status review of wolves in the Northern Rockies and examine the relentless threats that this species has encountered since being stripped of Endangered Species Act protection in 2011.

The call for this status review is the necessary first step toward relisting wolves in Idaho and other Northern Rockies states.

Instead of managing their wolves like other wildlife, the state of Idaho has declared war on them. Please help protect these majestic creatures with an emergency donation!

In the less than three years since Congress stripped Idaho’s wolves of protection, the state has:

  • Used aerial gunning to wipe out entire packs, including those on national forest lands, to artificially boost elk populations for sport hunting;
  • Allowed hunting of wolves every day of the year;
  • Doubled the number of wolves that could be trapped or snared per person from five to ten;
  • Sent a professional trapper in an attempt to eliminate two packs of wolves in a national wilderness area;
  • Proposed killing 60 percent of the remaining wolves in the heart of the Frank Church Wilderness area; and
  • Recently passed a law which provides $400,000 a year for the sole purpose of killing hundreds of wolves and their young.
