Several days ago, the phone rang at IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary (HAS) to report 4 horses dead and 17 others dying of chronic neglect and starvation in the freezing Mississippi winter. Doll Stanley, HAS sanctuary director, leaped immediately into action!
Doll was STUNNED to find:
FOUR horses dead - decaying skeletons, picked to the bones, in a meadow. I can't imagine this level of suffering - starving to death!
SEVENTEEN clung to life, urgently needing food to survive just one more day...
Within an hour, we delivered hay.
As you read these words, we are now DELIVERING HAY EVERY DAY and brainstorming our next moves - relocation to other pastures, veterinary aid, and sourcing grain, supplements and medicines.
We are in the midst of a lifesaving situation!
