As we celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, we here at Defenders have a lot to be thankful for.

Patrick, your efforts and support has helped to win some important victories this year for the wildlife we love. Here are just a few wins for wildlife that you helped make possible over the last year.

More bison head home on the range.

Defenders’ helped defeat efforts in the Montana courts and legislature to stop the return of bison from Yellowstone to their historic habitat. This clears the way for more translocations of bison to Indian lands in Montana.

California gets the lead out.

Governor Brown signed into law a landmark provision to phase out lead ammunition in the Golden State. Lead poisoning has sickened critically endangered California Condors and the ban offers new hope for their recovery.

Endangered Ferrets Return to Fort Belknap.

Along with our conservation partners, our Montana team helped release 32 black-footed-ferrets onto Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, restoring these endangered animals to their native habitat.

Sea turtles nest in peace in North Carolina.

Thanks to our efforts, off-roaders’ efforts to mow down new protections for endangered sea turtles flamed out in Congress. Sea turtle nests on Hatteras beaches reached a record high.

CITES gives shark protection new teeth.

Parties to the international wildlife trade treaty added hammerhead and oceanic whitetip sharks to the list of protected animals.

Parrot poaching takes a plunge.

Thanks in part to Defenders’ public education efforts, parrot smuggling in Mexico fell to a 17-year low.

These victories – and many others like them – wouldn't have been possible without you and the hundreds of thousands of caring Defenders of Wildlife supporters.

You make these amazing wins for our wildlife and wild places happen – and for that, we're most grateful.

Even as we continue to fight for the future of gray wolves, we take heart in the steady progress we are making together. Where there is passion and determination there is always hope.

Thanks for all you do and Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,
