Time is running out for 27 pristine wilderness areas. The 112th Congress, now in its final days before adjourning permanently, holds the future of wild places from the ice-clad Arctic to the desert Southwest in their hands.

Please support The Wilderness Society's 11th hour sprint to protect endangered American wilderness — while there is still time.

What's at Stake

For the first time in decades, this Congress is on track to save zero wilderness. Twenty seven bills, many with bipartisan support, are lost in legislative limbo.

With your help we're going to change that. Together, we can fight to win passage of legislation that delivers urgent protections for places like:

  • Permanent wilderness designation for the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (S.33/H.R. 139);
  • Along Maine's rocky coast, protection for 13 pristine islands — home to puffins and countless other seabirds (H.R. 2984);
  • Protection for roughly 20,000 acres in Tennessee's ancient Appalachians (S. 1090); and,
  • A 346,000-acre wilderness expansion of California's desert gems, Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks.

America's Wilderness is Literally Losing Ground

Every day, 6,000 acres of ancient lands are drilled, clear-cut, mined, or paved over. That means that every day that passes without new protections is a net loss for our wild future.

Our Action Plan

  • Grassroots outreach. As you read this, The Wilderness Society has launched an unprecedented grassroots assault on gridlock in Washington. We are unleashing a torrent of phone calls, letters, emails and personal visits.
  • Internet mobilization. Our network of online activists, more than half a million strong, is using state of the art tactics to keep the heat on.
  • Phone-banking. We are calling many of our active and influential advocates, to activate them in every state.
  • Media blitz. Our press team is seeking to get mainstream media, influential blogs and other outlets to shed a public spotlight on the current situation.

You know we can win this. We've done it before. But we need your immediate support — please donate today!

For seven decades running, we have been your voice in Washington ... And the voice of a wild America that cannot speak for itself.

Yukon Flats

Thousands of acres of spectacular wildlands across the country will go unprotected — unless we can get Congress to act immediately.

Please donate to our 11th Hour Sprint for Wilderness.
