Sea turtles are some of the oldest surviving species on the planet.

But harmful fishing practices and pollution from offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico are killing sea turtles at alarming rates.

Defenders of Wildlife and our allies are going to court to demand an end to harmful fishing practices and irresponsible drilling that are killing threatened and endangered sea turtles – but we need your help.

Please make a compassionate, tax-deductible donation of $15.00, $33.00 or whatever you can afford to help fund our court fights to save threatened and endangered sea turtles.

Defenders and our allies are in court fighting against more irresponsible drilling in the Gulf. And in October, we filed suit to stop escalating sea turtle drowning caused by shrimp trawling.

In 2011 alone, an extraordinary number of sea turtles – more than 1,400 -- have washed ashore dead or injured in the Gulf of Mexico and the coastal southeast. The National Marine Fisheries Service has linked these “strandings” to drowning in shrimp fishing nets.

Despite this rise in sea turtle strandings and the devastating impacts of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster, the National Marine Fisheries Service has not fulfilled its duty to protect these ancient and rare animals from harm.

We’re going to court to demand protections for vulnerable sea turtles. Please donate today to help support our court fight and other efforts to save threatened and endangered species.

We only have until Friday to raise the $15,000 we need for these court fights. Will you help today with a tax-deductible donation?

  • Your contribution will help us hold federal agencies accountable for preventing threatened and endangered sea turtles from drowning in dangerous shrimping nets.
  • Your donation will support litigation to stop more dangerous drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, where sea turtle populations are vulnerable to future catastrophes like the BP oil disaster.
  • And your support will help us work to save sea turtles and other imperiled species from the threat of extinction.

Drowning in a shrimp nets is an awful way for a turtle to die. Immersion in oil is a terrible end for such a fascinating creature.

You can help save threatened and endangered sea turtles from extinction. Please donate now.

With Gratitude,
