35 Gentle and Saddle Trained Horses Headed For Slaughter!

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Horse Welfare Advocates,

This year is starting to wind down for most people.  Families are getting ready for Thanksgiving next month and Christmas the next.

Here at Lifesavers we are preparing for a weekend of Thanks for our Wounded Warriors - veterans who have come back from military service with physical and emotional injury.

6 special service men will arrive this Wednesday to stay at our ranch for 3 1/2 days gentling wild horses all the while the wild horses will be healing their hearts from the residual pain and sadness that war scars them with.

But one day prior - on Tuesday - 35 innocent horses in Nevada will be auctioned off by the pound and sent on a long ride to a Canadian or Mexican slaughter house where they will meet a very ugly painful end.  Much like what happens in war when our soldiers are captured and tortured and in some cases killed by the enemy.  However in the case of these horses - there will be no survivors.

  Unless we can save them.

You know that Lifesavers has done an amazing job rescuing hundreds of horses since we started out in 1997.

And as a loyal supporter you remember that we have rescued more than 350 slaughter bound wild and domestic horses just since July 2010.

We certainly have done our share.  I'm sure you wouldn't hold it against us if we turned our backs on these 35 horses that have no hope of living out their lives being loved and cared for.  These horses that were likely someone's personal riding horse, or someone's pet.  These horses that have dedicated their existences to the happiness and entertainement of humans - so selflessly - so loyaly.  And now their repayment - their "thanks" is a frightening and brutal death at the hands of complete strangers who have no compassion or heart for these beautiful souls.

I'm sure you would understand if we said - we just cannot afford to feed another 35 horses.  We just can't make room.

But that is not what I want to say.  I want to ask you to help us save this group of hopeless horses that have much life in them still...that still have the ability to make a child smile or give a person who needs love the warmth and understanding that horses are known for...that will still dedicate themselves to healing the hearts and bodies of humans who have suffering in their own lives.  And they do this without asking for much in return.

They just need food, vet care on occasion, hoof care...and love.

Lifesavers is locked and loaded ready to run to Nevada to purchase these horses from the killer's hands....but first we have to raise the funds.

I know you will respect the plan we have devised for funding this rescue.  We have determined that we need $1200 for each horse.  This includes the purchase from the auction, transportation and travel documents to bring them to California, and feed/vet care until we can find adopters or sponsors who will give them what they need and deserve for the rest of their lives.

Oh....I know....this is a lot of money when you add it all up.  35 horses at $1200 each is $42,000....but that's what its going to take for Lifesavers to be able to properly feed and care for them over several months.

We already have 500 horses under our care.  Certainly you understand that we cannot keep adding horses unless we can add funds too.

So this is what I'm asking - please help us save these truly innocent horses from a terrible terrible death.  I know we can't save every horse out there in trouble....we said no many times lately.  Now it's time to say Yes.

Look at the photos to the left.  These are the very horses that will be dead in a week if we don't save them.  Reassure me that you want us to do whatever we can to keep them from dying such a horrible death by making a donation now.

Afterall - it's what we do, you and I, we are Lifesavers.

If you cannot afford to donate enough for us to save and care for one horse - $1200, the please give what you can. It will help - no matter the amount.

We have raised large amounts of money in the recent past to save horses from being butchered and served on a plate in Europe.  You, helped us, I'm sure.

If you can - please help us again - we don't have much time.

The horses are scheduled for sale this Tuesday, October 25th.  Our goal is to save them all.  But we will do the best we can with what our supporters are able to contribute during these hard financial times.

Thank you as always for supporting Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue.

Many blessings,

Jill Starr, President, Lifesavers Inc.

If you are one of the few who can afford to save one whole horse with a $1200 donation - I would be happy if you would choose a special name for the horse you save.

These are some of the horses that will be sold through the auction to killer buyers on October 25, 2011.  See more photos here.
