Yellowstone's wild bison are on the move. Facing a harsh winter and scarce food, these magnificent animals will journey beyond our nation's first national park to an uncertain -- and potentially deadly -- fate.

It's outrageous -- these wandering bison could be shot on sight, rounded up for slaughter or harassed and chased to where food is scarce.

The horrific killing could begin in earnest in the coming weeks.

Help prevent the slaughter of Yellowstone bison. Donate now to help stop the slaughter, mobilize our dedicated activists and secure vital habitat to ensure a lasting future for these American icons.

It's a truly sad situation for some of the last, genetically pure wild bison in America.

In the last five winters, more than 2,500 Yellowstone bison have been killed by government-sponsored gunmen -- all because of an unsubstantiated fear that they will transmit the disease brucellosis to domestic cattle.

With the help of caring Defenders supporters like you, we can help stop the horrific hazing and slaughter of some of America's last genetically pure wild bison -- and secure thousands of acres of new habitat for these iconic animals to roam.

Donate now to save America's last genetically pure wild bison and other wildlife struggling to survive.

Defenders, along with our sister organization Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, is working to ensure wild, genetically pure bison can once again roam beyond the confines Yellowstone National Park.

With your support, we're...

  • Mobilizing tens of thousands of activists in support of wild bison. Just since Friday, more than 54,000 Defenders supporters have urged federal officials to stop the annual Yellowstone bison slaughter;
  • Organizing local activists in Montana in support of a plan to relocate captive wild bison, including the Yellowstone 60 -- a group of disease-free bison quarantined since 2008;
  • Partnering with the Native American tribes of Fort Peck and Fort Belknap Reservations in Montana to secure tens of thousands of acres for Yellowstone bison to roam free;
  • Working to secure grazing allotments on federal and tribal lands to ensure vital habitat for these iconic animals; and
  • Much, much more.

We can't do any of this vital work without your generous support. Please donate now help ensure a brighter future for American bison.

Yellowstone's bison have survived the Ice Age and the horrible massacres of the 1800s. Now, with your generous support, we can help ensure a lasting place for wild bison in the American West.
