Polar Bear Eviction
Rodger Schlickeisen, Defenders of Wildlife
Unfortunately, right now Big Oil is effectively campaigning to evict these beloved bears from their homes, pushing for oil and gas operations in crucial denning habitat, championing disruptive drilling in the waters where they hunt and fueling climate change that’s pushing U.S. polar bears to the brink of extinction in the wild.
To fund our emergency efforts for polar bears, we need to raise $15,000 by Wednesday (September 29th). With your help, we’ll…
- Fight renewed efforts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – the most important onshore denning habitat for America's remaining polar bears;
- Safeguard crucial polar bear habitat in Alaska’s Western Arctic Reserve;
- Push federal officials to fast-track a ban on endosulfan, a deadly poison that threatens polar bears; and
- Champion legislation to address climate change and help polar bears survive in the wild.
The fate of America's polar bears is at stake.
Onshore oil and gas operations can disturb the dens of polar bears, causing mothers to orphan their cubs. Offshore drilling operations and climate change can make the already-difficult search for food even more so as stable sea-ice melts under their feet
The result: cubs abandoned to die and polar bears drowning and starving as key habitat is lost to climate change and Big Oil’s ceaseless drive for bigger profits.
U.S. scientists say that polar bears could be extinct by the end of the century. [1] Cub mortality is increasing. [2] And there have even been reports of polar bears resorting to cannibalism in their desperate search for food. [3]
Help save polar bears. Please donate now.
We’re going to the mat to prevent the extinction of these beloved bears. We’re not only fighting to preserve their homes, but also working to ban toxins that threaten them. And we’re fighting efforts by the Safari Club International and others to re-open a loophole that would allow the importation of polar bear parts killed by U.S. sport hunters in countries where such killing is still legal.
We can win this fight, but we need your support for these important efforts. Please join our fight to save polar bears… their very lives depend on your help.
For the Polar Bears,

Save the Lives of
Polar Bears
Polar bears like this one are losing their homes, vital habitat and the sea ice they need to live.
