UPDATE ON SEPTEMBER 18 FALLON LIVESTOCK AUCTION RESCUE:

Smaller Font Larger Font RSS 2.0

There were not 175 horses as the flyer to the left states - there were only about 100 horses at the sale yard.  Only two went outside our circle of rescuers.  One was purchased back by the seller and one was purchased by an individual.  (3 others were also initially purchased by traders, but Lifesavers was able to recover them.)

Lifesavers ended up with 66 horses.  Some have already been spoken for and will be adopted to good homes shortly.  The other rescuer's horses are going to a wonderful sanctuary home in northern California where they will run free on 1900 acres of grass forage and fresh water all year around.

It was a grueling auction and one that we were not prepared for since it came barreling down at us like a freight train so quickly after our last auction rescue in July where we purchased 169 horses away from the killers.

I honestly was hoping that some other horse rescue group would be able to save this bunch...but as the date came closer and closer I knew the horses lives rested on my shoulders.

The horses, we were told, came into the sale wild, untrained and unhandled.  Except for 3 saddle horses.  The horses were a mix of domestic bred and range wild horses.  All apparently privately owned.  Many did have a matching ranch brand.  Most of the horses are quiet and appear to have been around humans enough to be desensitized to their presence.

A number of them did come from Shoshone-Paiute reservation, but privately owned by a Native American.

All the horses are beautiful and deserving of their natural lives.  Thank you to everyone who participated in this rescue in any way that you did.  We made it happen together and you all can take pride and credit that 100 lives were spared on September 18, 2010 at Fallon, Nevada.

For more information on adoption or sponsorship please email me at lifesavers@wildhorserescue.org.\

We are still in need of support for this current group of rescued horses and the previous ones for feed, care, vet treatment and transportation to new homes.  Please be as generous as you can.

If you can donate funds to the rescue and will let us use the money for the greatest good please make your PayPal donation here.
