Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson are calling on President Obama and Senator Reid to Grant America's Mustangs a Christmas Reprieve

Dear Friends of the Wild Horses,

I'm sorry to report on what should be a very happy day that the DC District court Judge Paul L. Friedman denied the In Defense of Animals' request for an injunction on the Calico roundup. However, he did suggest that the BLM delay the roundup and ordered a lawsuit challenging this massive removal. So despite public demands, science and reason we expect that the BLM will begin the roundup on December 28th of over 2,700 wild horses in NW Nevada. Judge Friedman's 25-page decision and more information about the Calico case are now posted on our blog.

I'm saddened to share with you news of more wild horse deaths, this time two colts in last weeks' Paisley Wild Horse roundup in southern Oregon (read our recent press release here for details). Paisley was only 1/10th the size of the planned Calico roundup and left only about 100 horses in a 300,000 acre area.

Please join The Cloud Foundation and Sheryl Crow  (a mustang owner herself) in calling for an immediate stop to these roundups: "I'm asking President Obama and Senator Reid to stop the Calico roundup of the American wild mustangs in Nevada NOW until Congress decides how to manage our living legends of the West." Willie Nelson also wrote a wonderful letter urging all to protect our wild horses explaining "Wild horses evolved in North America before spreading throughout the world so it is important that we protect them from the BLM."Please continue to fax, call & write President Obama to stop the Calico roundup.

Merry Christmas and thank you for all your support and work to make 2010 a better year for our wild herds! As Congressman Raul Grijalva said in the Mustangs on the Hill address this past September: This is not only a humane issue, this is an issue about preserving a legacy that we have in the west.”

Best wishes,

Makendra and the Cloud Foundation Team
