Lifeline for Belugas on the Brink Alaska’s endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales will have their home waters protected under a proposal announced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). More than one third of the Cook Inlet's waters off the coast of Anchorage would be protected to help ensure recovery of these marine mammals.
The Cook Inlet belugas were listed as endangered earlier this year, thanks in part to the more than 80,000 messages sent by Defenders supporters urging federal officials to take action. Now, officials need to hear from you on their plan to protect these struggling whales’ home.
