Take it to the Top and Help Us Save Greater Yellowstone Wolves!
Rodger Schlickeisen, Defeners of Wildlife Action Fund
With the lives of nearly 1,000 wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies at stake, compassionate people like you are really stepping up to help save our wolves!
Last week, dedicated supporters like you logged more than 6,700 calls to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service protesting the Department of Interior’s deadly decision to eliminate vital federal protections for wolves in Idaho and Montana -- a decision that could lead to the slaughter of more than two-thirds of the region’s wolves.
The Department of Interior’s terrible decision on wolves could mean a death sentence for wolves in the Greater Yellowstone region and the Northern Rockies.
Under Salazar’s ill-conceived decision, wolves that stray from the safety of Yellowstone would be subject to state management plans that could lead to wholesale slaughter. In fact, Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter -- who in the past has argued to kill up to 80% of the wolves in Idaho -- recently publicly reiterated his desire to be one of the first to kill a wolf.
The Interior Department’s decision also violates the Endangered Species Act by ignoring the need for robust, healthy and connected wolf populations across the Northern Rockies and greatly diminishes the hope that wolves may someday be restored to parts of their historic range in Colorado, Utah, Oregon and Washington.
Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund -- together with Defenders of Wildlife and our allies -- is working tirelessly on the ground to save these wolves, but we need your help to ensure that our message is heard at the highest levels of power in Washington, DC.
The Interior Department’s decision to eliminate protections for wolves in Idaho and Montana -- including wolves that wander from Yellowstone National Park -- has sparked outrage across the country. But we need your help to ensure that President Obama understands how much Americans care about protecting our wolves. Please take action now…
For the Wild Ones,
Rodger Schlickeisen President Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
P.S. The Interior Department’s wolf decision could be formalized as soon as this week. Please send your message to President Obama today!

Save Wolves
The Department of Interior’s deadly decision to eliminate protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies violates the Endangered Species Act and could lead to the slaughter of two-thirds of the wolves in the Northern Rockies -- including Yellowstone wolves that leave the park.
