Bush Greenlights Yellowstone Wolf Slaughter -- Again !

Today, the Bush/Cheney Administration announced yet another eleventh-hour attempt to eliminate vital protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies, including Greater Yellowstone. More than 1,000 wolves could be killed as a result.

Defenders is already calling on the incoming Obama Administration and conservation champions in Congress to overturn this eleventh-hour attack on our wolves. And our lawyers stand ready to take immediate legal action to challenge the latest delisting of wolves in the Northern Rockies region, including the northern and western parts of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

But we need your help -- please make a tax-deductible donation today to support the Greater Yellowstone Wolf Defense Fund.

More than a hundred wolves were killed earlier this year -- including Limpy, the famous Yellowstone wolf -- when protections were removed.

But thanks to your support, we were able to restore these vital protections for the region's wolves. Now the Bush/Cheney Administration is at it again -- in their final hours in office, they've cynically forced through essentially the same failed plan.

Prior to the successful court fight that stopped the Bush/Cheney Administration from delisting wolves earlier this year, the state of Idaho had plans in place to kill nearly half of the wolves in the state in the first year after delisting. Under delisting, terrible plans like this would remain in place.

More than 1,000 wolves could be slaughtered -- that's two-thirds of all the wolves living in the region -- unless we can once again stop the Bush/Cheney Administration's disastrous plan.

We need your emergency donation to support the Greater Yellowstone Wolf Defense Fund. Please make a secure contribution online.

We’ve won before -- and with your help, we can certainly win again. Defenders has long been the leader in the fight to ensure a lasting future for America’s wolves. We helped reintroduce wolves to Yellowstone and central Idaho, and we haven’t stopped fighting for them since.

Just last spring, our legal challenge helped reinstate protections for wolves after an earlier attempt by the Bush/Cheney Administration to eliminate these important safeguards for wolves in the Greater Yellowstone and Northern Rockies area.

Now, in its final hours, the Bush/Cheney Administration again wants wolves thrown to the mercy of state officials determined to kill them.

We won’t let it stand -- we're going to fight to save these wolves.  Please help with a tax-deductible donation to the extent you can today.

Thank you for all you do.
