The Freedom Tower - Signature of the New World Trade Center Complex

The new World Trade Center complex currently under construction in Manhattan, New York City is a very ambitious project designed to fulfill multiple roles: stand out as a symbol for national strength and freedom, pay homage to the victims fallen during the terrorist acts on 9-11, as well as provide people with thousands of job opportunities and bring a major contribution to the local economy. Regarded as a controversial and challenging concept a few years ago, the new World Trade Center complex has recently begun to take shape, revealing the monumental figure of an infrastructure complex that corroborates latest technology materials and advanced security features with innovative, interesting, modern and unconventional designs. When completed, the complex will comprise the Freedom Tower, three adjacent tall buildings, a residential tower, a museum and a cultural center.   Although the project is far from being completed (the new World Trade Center is expected to be completed by 2012), it has already become very popular worldwide and has generated lots of divergent public opinions. While some people consider the project to be more spectacular and interesting than the previous constructions, others regard it as too ambitious and radical, claiming that the new complex should share more characteristics with its predecessor.. » read more

U.S. city considers surrender to 'green police'

Mayor's panel pushes carbon taxes, subsidies, 'meatless Mondays' What would life in an American city look like if it required its residents go green to combat climate change? Would it be all trees and gardens and bicycles, or would it look more like oppression under Big Brother's green thumb? Cambridge, Mass., home of Harvard University, may be giving the country a glimpse of the answer. Last May, the city officially adopted an order recognizing that there is a climate emergency; but after nearly a year, officials discovered the city's carbon footprint was nonetheless growing worse. Cambridge Mayor Denise Simmons, therefore, brought together nearly 100 activists and concerned citizens under the endorsement of the city council to convene a "Climate Congress" to make recommendations on how Cambridge can meet its green goals. The official report of the Climate Congress provides a sneak peek at how life in Cambridge may be about to dramatically change.. » read more

‘Planetary Skin’ CO2 Sensor Facilitates Global Monitoring & Catastrophe Bond Profiteering (with videos)

Abel Danger has been reporting on CO2 sensors in HVAC (heating, ventilation & air conditioning) systems in buildings and transportation systems which can be used to unleash a series of events which destroy property and lives to benefit investors who are on the profitable side of catastrophe bonds. Most of us are familiar with temperature sensors—thermostats—that monitor the environment inside of our buildings, automobiles, etc. and keep these spaces at a comfortable temperature. In a similar way, CO2 sensors monitor the amount of CO2. What if a skin could be placed around the Earth which would act as a global CO2 and temperature sensor? Welcome to the ‘mother of all sensors’—Planetary Skin—a project by NASA and Cisco which will monitor, and dare we say—control, the planet.. » read more

Haiti Needs Help - and a Serious Plan

Jan. 14, 2010 I'm writing this on my blackberry as I am driving to Haiti from the Dominican Republic. Again, nature has destroyed Haiti’s chances of getting back on its feet - or at least, that is what we are being told. The truth is that natural disasters in Haiti always prove to be more devastating than in the neighboring Dominican Republic or in Cuba. Lack of infrastructure, deforestation and severe poverty are some of the reasons why.. » read more

Create More Time & Help the Environment

Jan. 5, 2009 From a carbon emissions point-of-view, is it better to buy products online or in a store? You probably guessed the former -- and if so, you’re right, according to a new study. The National Retail Federation conducted a survey late last month in which it asked consumers about their anticipated spending over the Thanksgiving weekend. The results showed that, on average, consumers would spend $343 inside stores and $104 through online purchases. Researchers used these numbers to calculate that the negative environmental impact of an in-store purchase made on Black Friday is 50 times that of an online purchase made on Cyber Monday.. » read more
