URGENT: Arctic Drilling Fast-tracked

The fight to save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is heating up, and we need your support now more than ever. There is no more important time than now to stand up for the Arctic.

A majority of Americans oppose drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but the Trump administration is fast-tracking its plans to open up the refuge’s coastal plain to energy exploration. In December, during the federal budget process, Senator Lisa Murkowski added a sneaky provision into the tax bill opening up the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge to oil drilling.

Drilling is the last thing the Arctic Refuge needs. The refuge is already being impacted by climate change, and development could permanently destroy the fragile ecosystem and threaten wildlife species like polar bears, bald eagles and wolves. It could irreparably damage the way of life of the Gwich’in people, who have depended on the Porcupine Caribou Herd for thousands of years.

The Arctic Refuge is too precious to allow drilling and other extraction. The Wilderness Society is fighting to protect the Arctic Refuge from Big Oil executives and anti-conservation members of Congress who put money over people, wilderness and wildlife. Will you help?
