As projected as higher than normal probabilities here in the ECB consistently for the past two weeks:

A Class 6.5 quake breaks the coastal zone about 25 miles south of Eureka Califonia about three hours ago, preceded within about the last 24 hours with an Atlantic Rift Shape-shifter and a major break out of Class 4 to 6 quakes in the Soloman Islands at the same point of crustal breakup which has produced dozens of noticable quakes this past week. The natives must be extremely worried by now, and if not, they are out of the skulls on fermented cocunut.

Alert For Pacific Northwest Please,

From descriptions of damage, influence, and the depth, there is high liklihood that the Magnitude rating (which is only preliminary at this point) will be revised upward. This quake off Eureka is highly significant since it is at the bottom tip of a number of Pacific Ocean crustral fragments, the most well known of which is the Juan De Fuca Platelet. Off shore about 200 miles is an ancient spreading rift zone which is still spreading roughly East and West, though much more slowly than the East Pacific Rift below Mexico. These plate fragments are buckling under North America at slides against and over them from approximately the Northeast.

During the past two years, this rift and the adjacent slip fault zones have been substantially more active than during prior years and this is apparently the largest quake recorded in this zone. The activity suggests that the stressed thrust (horizontal) and warp (uplift or downward ) vectors are in much greater dynamic flux than ever. Since this is the same rift and plate which runs up to the Queen Charlotte Islands, which has also experienced a record breaking Class 6 quake this past year, the deduction, My Dear Mr. Watson, is elementary. The risk of major earth flux (quakes) at all points between Eureka and the Queen Charlottes is higher than ever.

Those advisories about possible mega-quakes in this zone which the local agencies in B.C.,. Washington State, and Oregon have been putting out are highly pertinent. Read them again and pay attention. And don't wait for the next quake. They are SO decisive in suddenly altering one's reality and that is the one time getting prepared is impossible.

This is just the midpoint in this Perihelion season of crustal reactions and readjustment to the increase in Solar gravity. Along with this season is a modestly synchronized Lunar Cycle, which has a New Moon and another Full Moon to play out. Accordingly, expect a series of another three heightened surges of earthquake activity. As with today's Class 6 quakes, more major quakes even probably two or three Great Quakes Class 7+ can and likely will occur at practically any time duirng the next 40 days, with a gradual dwindling after that.

All in all, frequency is down from years prior to 2009, hence I also expect 2010 to be fairly mild for the most part.

ABOVE ALL, REMEMBER, there is a trend of upward activity which has been clearly present since the early 1970's. The past of little or no activity is NOT a guide to what may happen tomorrow. We are in a short lulling period, but if the 40 year trend holds, the upward march of activity will begin again sometime within the next 24 months.
