Can Obama Respond to Giant Hole in Earth's Magnetosphere by 2012? (with video)

NASA scientists on December 16, 2008 announced that “THEMIS spacecraft have discovered a breach in Earth's magnetic field ten times larger than anything previously thought to exist.” NASA’s THEMIS mission comprises 5 probes launched in February 2007 to measure the Earth’s magnetic field. According to Wenhui Li, a University of New Hampshire space physicist analyzing the NASA THEMIS mission: "The opening was huge—four times wider than Earth itself."Jimmy Raeder, another University of New Hampshire scientist analyzing the THEMIS project data said: "We've seen things like this before but never on such a large scale. The entire day-side of the magnetosphere was open to the solar wind." The breach is allowing up to 20 times the normal amount of solar particles to enter the Earth’s atmosphere according to the NASA announcement.

The breach in the magnetosphere was not causing any great concern for the moment since solar activity is at a minimum. In fact, the last time the sun was so inactive was in 1913. The lack of solar activity has even caused some scientists to speculate that we are about to enter a mini-Ice Age. Most NASA scientists however agree that by 2012, when the sun moves into its solar maximum, the current situation will change dramatically. In 2006 a team of solar scientists led by Mausumi Dikpati of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) predicted that the "next sunspot cycle [#24] will be 30% to 50% stronger than the previous one."
The sun’s heightened sunspot activity will lead to coronal mass ejections (CME) filled with solar particles or plasma that will dramatically spread out through the solar wind. Increased quantities of plasma will be carried to the Earth in giant solar waves passing through the breach in the magnetosphere. This is how one NASA scientist explained the situation: "We're entering Solar Cycle 24. For reasons not fully understood, CMEs in even-numbered solar cycles (like 24) tend to hit Earth with a leading edge that is magnetized north. Such a CME should open a breach and load the magnetosphere with plasma just before the storm gets underway. It's the perfect sequence for a really big event."
The big event alluded to by NASA THEMIS scientists is major disruption to satellites, telecommunications systems and the electrical power grid. What the scientists didn’t discuss is the impact on the human bioelectrical system. By 2012, individuals will need to learn to be “solar surf riders” to survive the dramatic waves of plasma pouring in through the Earth’s magnetosphere at astounding rates.

In his ground breaking book, The Body Electric, Robert Becker showed that the human body is a complex bio-electrical system. The consequences of Becker’s work were enormous in terms of the development of the science of bio-electricity and its impact on the health industry through innovations such as electrotherapy.
Sadly, the bio-electrical nature of the human body is not seriously studied by the medical establishment. Instead, major developments occur in military commissioned studies where the most innovative findings are routinely classified. Nick Begich, in Controlling the Human Mind, showed how the defense industry has conducted classified research on the bio-electrical system for defense related applications. For example, the military commissioned a study by the University of Utah in 1985 that produced a Radio Frequency Dosimetry Handbook which identified the electrical resonant frequencies of all the body’s organs and tissues. This information can be used to trigger organ collapse or healing depending on the various technologies developed, and their applications.
So if the human body is fundamentally bio-electrical what does that entail for the period around 2012 when solar flare activity peaks and solar particles pour through the giant breach in the magnetosphere? Rather than solely electrical systems being affected, so too will be the human body. According to David Sibeck, a THEMIS project scientist, the breach will last for the entire span of the next solar cycle. He warned: "It should be that we're in for a tough time in the next 11 years."
The new Obama administration has taken a much more proactive approach to science and the environment. In a press conference announcing his choice of Stephen Chu as Energy Secretary, President Obama said:
My administration will value science. We will make decisions based on the facts, and we understand that facts demand bold action.
For the next 11 years, as the magnetosphere breach continues to allow up to 20 times the normal amount of plasma to bombard the Earth and the human bioelectrical system and this activity peaks around 2012, these facts require “bold action”. What “bold action” can the Obama administration take to help prepare American citizens and humanity more generally for what’s about to occur as we approach and pass beyond 2012 over the next 11 years? What can private individuals do to prepare for the massive social and psychological effects of the human bioelectrical system as it responds to a surge in solar plasma energy entering the earth’s environment in unprecedented rates?
