The email below is from Erica Etelson, a CREDO activist in Berkeley, California. Erica started a petition on CREDO Mobilize <http://act.credoaction.com/go/1668?t=1&akid=10697.2348285.qqjXnp> , where activists can launch their own campaigns for progressive change. Will you help Erica pressure the California legislature and Governor Brown to reject a bill that would make it harder for communities to invest in clean energy by signing her petition <http://act.credoaction.com/go/4349?t=2&akid=10697.2348285.qqjXnp>  and sharing it with your friends and family?

Dear Dawn,

Since 2002, democratically controlled Community Choice energy programs have enabled local governments in California to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while creating green jobs and stimulating the local economy. But Assembly Bill 2145 would eliminate Community Choice energy.

The assembly could vote on the bill soon, so we have to speak out now to protect one of California's best clean energy programs. That's why I started my own campaign on CREDOMobilize.com, which allows activists to start their own petitions. My petition, which is to the California legislature and Governor Brown, says the following:

Vote NO on AB 2145, a bill that would destroy the future of Community Choice Energy in California.

Tell the California Legislature: Reject the latest utility power grab. <http://act.credoaction.com/go/4349?t=5&akid=10697.2348285.qqjXnp>

Community Choice energy programs empower local communities to take control of decision-making about the sources and cost of their electrical power. These programs are dedicated to reducing consumer electricity demand, providing competitive electricity rates and maximizing the amount of renewable energy in their mix.

In California, Community Choice was made possible by state legislation enacted in 2002. Marin and Sonoma Counties were the first to establish Community Choice programs in 2010 and 2014 respectively. Other counties are currently considering establishing Community Choice programs, including Alameda, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Monterey, among others.

In 2008, PG&E spent millions trying to discourage Marin residents from choosing Marin Clean Energy. In 2010, PG&E spent $46 million on an unsuccessful ballot initiative, Prop 16, to change the California Constitution to require a two-thirds majority of voters to establish a Community Choice program.

PG&E is now pressuring the state legislature to pass Assembly Bill 2145 and prohibit California communities from using Community Choice to invest in clean energy. AB 2145 represents a backwards step for California. Don’t let utilities derail our clean energy future.

Will you join me and add your name to my petition urging the California legislature and Governor Brown to reject the latest attack on clean energy in California? <http://act.credoaction.com/go/4349?t=6&akid=10697.2348285.qqjXnp>

Thank you for your support.

Erica Etelson
