CAPITOL HILL SUPPORT FOR OPEN FUEL STANDARDS GROWS:
CONGRESSMAN ALLEN WEST ADDS NAME AS COSPONSOR
ACT! for America is doing it again. We are slowly but surely moving the ball down the field on one of our high priority issues—breaking OPEC’s domination of worldwide oil.
November was a banner month on Capitol Hill when it comes to gaining support for this goal and, in doing so, sending a clear message to hostile Islamic regimes across the globe that they will no longer be able to use oil as a weapon.

As we reported in our last Open Fuel Standard Act Alert, during the first part of the month, Brigitte and Lisa Piraneo, our Director of Government Relations, spent a full day meeting face-to-face with federal legislators and educating them not only on the importance of the OFS legislation, but on why it is so critical that we turn “oil into salt”—salt no longer being the strategic commodity it once was. Over the following days, Lisa met with additional Members of Congress on this issue. She was joined by former National Security Advisor Robert (Bud) McFarlane, Anne Korin of the U.S. Energy Security Council, and Robert Stein, director of the OFS coalition. Once again, these meetings were tremendously productive and it was clear that our elected officials are beginning to see the light.

The continued push up on Capitol Hill—on the one side by Brigitte, Lisa, and the coalition—and on the other through your voices from back home via your letters and e-mails—has resulted in growing support for the Open Fuel Standard Act. The most recent victory? U.S. Congressman—Allen West, who recently added his name to this critical legislation as a cosponsor. Great news, indeed!
Congressman West understands that this legislation is a simple and common sense approach to finally severing our ties with OPEC and to putting a stop to our own financing of Islamic terrorism every time we fill up our gas tanks.
