TEHRAN, Iran – Iran is exploring a newly discovered oil field believed to contain about 1.1 billion barrels of crude oil, a report broadcast on state television said yesterday.

Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said about 220 million barrels are “recoverable,” according to the report. The oil field is located near Andimeshk, in the province of Khuzestan, about 290 miles southwest of Tehran. Iran, the fourth-largest oil producer in the world, controls about 5 percent of the global oil supply.
