The Supreme Court Just Handed Down One Victory for Donald Trump

The Supreme Court is handing down its final decisions of the current term.

This is when the Justices reveal their most politically charged and controversial opinions.

And the Supreme Court just handed Donald Trump a victory.

One of the biggest issues facing the court is religious liberty.

Secular liberals formed legal hit squads to scour the country for any public display that could be construed as being Christian and sued to have it torn down claiming it violated the First Amendment’s prohibition against establishing a state religion.

The real goal was to completely drive Christianity out of public life and shame believers into renouncing their faith.

During this current term, the Supreme Court took on one of those attempts to purge a symbol of faith from the public square.

The Bladensburg “Peace Cross” has stood in Maryland since 1925.

Residents erected it to honor the lives of 49 Marylanders who had served in World War I.

Over the years, the government helped maintain the cross, so radical secular progressives sued claiming this breached the separation of church and state.

Their argument was so far out of bounds that even two of the left-wing Justices – Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer – joined the court’s five conservatives in ruling the “Peace Cross” does not violate the establishment clause and can continue to stand on public land.

Justice Samuel Alito delivered the opinion of the court and wrote that the cross was not solely a Christian symbol.

“The cross is undoubtedly a Christian symbol, but that fact should not blind us to everything else that the Bladensburg Cross has come to represent. For some, that monument is a symbolic resting place for ancestors who never returned home. For others, it is a place for the community to gather and honor all veterans and their sacrifices for our Nation. For others still, it is a historical landmark. For many of these people, destroying or defacing the Cross that has stood undisturbed for nearly a century would not be neutral and would not further the ideals of respect and tolerance embodied in the First Amendment. For all these reasons, the Cross does not offend the Constitution,” Alito wrote.

But in a stunning turn of events, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg read her dissent from the bench.

While this is not unheard of, it is not common.

The last famous example of a Justice taking this step was Antonin Scalia reading his fiery dissent in the King v. Burwell case where the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare for the second time.

Scalia had blasted the ruling as “pure apple sauce” and “jiggerypoke.”

Justices save reading dissents from the bench for issues near to the heat and when they want to make a point.

Ginsberg decided allowing a cross to stand was her hill to die on.

And it shows just how committed the secular left is to stomping out all religious liberty in America.

American Patriot Daily will continue to cover any new decisions the Supreme Court hands down as its term comes to a close.
