CATHOLIC CHURCH IN STRIFE

Father Fitzgerald way back in 1957 went on to say of the pedophile priests, “these sexual predators should be defrocked or hidden from the masses behind monastery walls. These are vipers who can never be stopped... you can only remove them from their targets and make them live a life of prayer and penance.”  He wrote to the Pope in 1957 warning that pedophilia was infesting every aspect of the Catholic Church.  From the 50s to the 90s his organization spent over $80 million treating over 2,000 pedophile priests, but the Vatican voted against his defrocking or isolation approach, and instead ordered him to “rehabilitate” the priests and “relocate” them once again among their targets/victims.  In 1980, as Archbishop of Munich, Joseph Ratzinger (future Pope Benedict) approved plans for a priest to move to a different German parish and return to pastoral work, only days after the priest began therapy for pedophilia.  Today, the German Church has a huge problem with priests sexually abusing children.

Tony Walsh, who was also known as the singing Priest of Ireland for his Elvis impersonations, became the greatest singular reason for the Church's collapse in Ireland.  The Vatican protected him and did nothing even after he admitted to almost 200 cases of sexual abuse of children.  After decades of silence from the Vatican, in 1995 the parents of the many victims rose up against Walsh and the Church, and mobilized the communities in Ireland to boycott the Church, and staged huge protests to have Walsh arrested.  Only after all this generated huge media attention and controversy for the Church, did the Vatican finally defrock and dismiss him.  Two years later, in 1997, as further evidence of the Church's inflexibility and true, dark intentions, an official, internal memorandum from the Vatican to the Bishops was leaked to the press, in which the Vatican is telling all the Bishops that they are to do everything in their power to protect pedophile priests!

This became the “smoking gun” that the Vatican did indeed know about all of these abusers and was knowingly harboring and protecting these sexual predators.  This memorandum and the Church’s callous disregard for the innocent victims, never apologizing directly to these victims and their families, further enraged the communities of Ireland. The net result of this “head in the sand” approach was a near total collapse of the Church in Ireland down to 4% attendance, and the above declaration rejecting the Church.  After many decades of rising discontent, and pure outrage over these abuses, from the victims, families, parishioners, and all those who support the Church with their ongoing donations and offerings, the Church is experiencing its lowest attendance and revenue levels ever.

All over the world, entire archdiocese have closed up shop and declared bankruptcy, and the veil of Canon Law protection previously afforded these pedophile priests has crumbled under the onslaught of thousands of criminal lawsuits filed, convictions obtained, thousands that are still pending, and billions in damages paid to the victims and their families.  The ancient and dark empire is crumbling right before our eyes, under the weight of too many scandals that can no longer be covered up - from pedophile priests protected by the Vatican, to various explosive reports, which have linked the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI to the discovery of a network of gay priests in the Vatican, some of whom were being blackmailed by outsiders with video evidence.
