This year, the most famous climate scientist in the world -- James Hansen, former NASA Climate Chief -- released a terrifying paper that predicts unavoidable sea level rise unless we take major, immediate action to address climate change.

At the same time, the toxic and wasteful oil extraction practice of fracking is expanding at an alarming rate across the country -- destroying more and more of our lands, polluting our air and water, and increasing our seismic activity -- leading us closer to a climate catastrophe.

And now, our most iconic national parks and forests are under threat of being fracked. Thankfully, RIGHT NOW, there is a new groundbreaking bill that will help us stop Big Oil in their tracks.

Hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”, is the process of drilling and injecting toxic fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas and oil inside. And our country is addicted.

In 2014 alone, oil and gas companies leased over 34 MILLION acres of precious public land, and over 200 million MORE acres are being targeted for drilling -- even America’s most precious National Parks and regions, including Glacier National Park in Montana and George Washington National Forest in Virginia.

Regulations alone are not enough to protect us from the harms of fracking. In many instances, regulated fracking has the same adverse effects as unregulated fracking. On top of that, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports that the majority of extreme oil extraction wells drilled between 2009 and 2012 have NEVER been inspected! In other words, we have NO CLUE the damaging effects tens of thousands of wells could have on our health and communities.

If we can ban fracking on public lands, it’ll build momentum for a ban on fracking everywhere -- helping shift us to a more clean and sustainable energy future. But it all starts with this bill!

SIGN THE PETITION and ask your members of Congress to protect the health of our communities, environment, and our climate by supporting or co-sponsoring the Protect Our Public Lands Act of 2015 to ban fracking on public lands NOW!

Let’s do this,
