Just imagine: a Deepwater Horizon-type explosion rips apart an oil rig deep in the Arctic Ocean — 900 miles from the nearest Coast Guard station and over 1200 miles from the nearest deep-water port.
Remember Exxon Valdez? It would pale in comparison to the permanent environmental damage and cost of such a disaster.
The Department of the Interior says that a disastrous spill is highly likely to occur if Arctic drilling is allowed to continue long-term
The Arctic ecosystem is fragile, and has only become more so with climate change. And we know to stop catastrophic climate change, we have to leave oil in the ground. We can’t risk the health of our oceans or the future of our economy for the benefit of big international oil conglomerates.

That’s why I introduced the Stop Arctic Ocean Drilling Act — to prevent any new or renewed oil leases in the Arctic.

			Thank you for taking action.
