Big Brother really is watching.
In 12 states and the District of Columbia, students are taking the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College & Careers) exam. We’ve just learned that Pearson–the largest for-profit education, testing and publishing company in the world–is monitoring what those students say on social media for “test security."
Even if you don't live in a PARCC state, this behavior should concern us all. Pearson is involved in education in nearly every state, with testing contracts in 21 states, plus Washington, D.C., New York City and Puerto Rico. In total, 39 percent of all standardized tests in the United States are run by Pearson.
This has gone too far. Student privacy is a serious issue. We need to know who Pearson is watching, what they do with the data and what agreements they have with states to monitor what our kids are saying.

Immediately stop monitoring our students on social media, and disclose any contract language regarding test security for full public review.
