THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE FOR BEES

Bee populations continue to plummet, yet the Environmental Protection Agency just announced that it will delay any regulatory decisions on toxic bee-killing pesticides until at least 2016.

If bees continue to die at current rates, the beekeeping industry is unlikely to survive the EPA’s delayed timeline—putting bees and our food system in jeopardy.

We can’t let this happen… and the courts are one of the last lines of defense to fight back.

People like you have called on our government and industry to protect bees from toxic pesticides that contribute to massive bee die-offs, yet these deadly pesticides continue to be rubber-stamped for widespread use.

We’re ramping up our work to save bees and stop these dangerous pesticides, using the most powerful tool available—the law. But we need your help now more than ever to see these and other fights through.

Nearly one-third of our crops—including many vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds—depend on bees for pollination. We can’t afford to let short-term private profits destroy our natural world.

Bees are critical to our food system, but the government continues to delay action.

Help us ramp up our efforts in court to force government action to save the bees!

In June, President Obama created an interagency Pollinator Health Task Force, co-chaired by the EPA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. But the task force missed its December deadline, and with the EPA delaying any decisions for at least a year, we need to fight back NOW!

Help save the bees!

Your generous tax-deductible gift today will be put to use immediately to:

  • Call on the president to immediately suspend use of toxic-bee killing pesticides, take steps to curb their adverse impacts, and close a legal loophole that allows the insecticides to be sold before they are adequately assessed for safety
  • Fight in court to save bees—already struggling to survive—from pesticides shown to be highly toxic to bees, including Dow AgroScience’s sulfoxaflor, Valent U.S.A. Corporation’s Venom Insecticide, and Mitsui Chemical Agro’s Dinotefuran 20SG
  • Stop the approval of any new bee-killing pesticides without analysis of environmental impacts or available alternatives
  • Take on other critical fights to protect the natural world

These pesticides, known as neonicotinoids, are particularly dangerous for bees because they poison the whole plant, including the nectar and pollen, which bees eat. At miniscule doses the pesticides can kill bees outright, but even at doses that may not kill immediately, they impair bees’ ability to breed, forage, fight disease, and survive the winter.

Bees are dying! Help us use the law to force government action to protect them!

to help us win

Our Ourgovernment has allowed millions of acres to be planted each year with crop seeds that have been treated with neonicotinoids, with no registration of the pesticide-treated seeds and no enforcement actions in cases of misuse.

The law may be the only chance we have to stop these deadly pesticides once and for all. Help us take on these difficult battles for bees and our natural world with an urgent gift today.

Thank you for your continued support,
