Canada's biggest province might be about to restrict the use of bee-killing pesticides, in a move that could cause echoes around the world.

Scientists and beekeepers have been warning about mass bee die-offs for years -- but the pesticide industry has mounted a massive campaign to prevent government action. A partial ban in Canada could trigger a huge domino effect towards a global ban on these bee killers.

But pesticide giant Bayer is determined to prevent action. Already, Bayer has paid an industry-lined scientist $1 million to reproduce a discredited study showing the pesticides to be "safe". We can't match that huge money, but we don't need to.

If we can raise just 10% of Bayer's slush fund, we can organize beekeepers and gardeners across Ontario to engage the public, media and government with a big, public push to ban bee-killing pesticides. But if we don't act, then Bayer's campaign to stop any regulation of these poisons could be all Canada's decision makers hear.

Can you chip in $25 to help organize beekeepers and gardeners to campaign for a ban on bee-killing pesticides in Canada, and counter Bayer's propaganda campaign?

Study after study shows what beekeepers already know: Right around the world, bees are dying off and the situation seems to be getting worse. The culprit: a class of pesticides manufactured by Bayer and others called "neonics". But to get them banned, we're going up against a company prepared to spend millions to get its way.

Already, the SumOfUs campaign to save the bees in causing huge waves. Earlier this month, a landmark new study from SumOfUs, Friends of the Earth and our allies found that half of all "bee friendly" garden plants sold by big gardening stores come pre-treated with bee-killing pesticides. In response, huge retailer Home Depot pledged to label all products containing these pesticides this year, and figure out how it can eliminate them for good -- not enough, but a start.

Our activist beekeepers and campaigners have spoken out at the annual shareholder meetings of Lowe's and Bayer, talking directly to CEOs and shareholders about the need to act, and keeping up the pressure. And our lawyers are still working to defend Europe's ban on some of these poisons in the courts in the face of Bayer's legal challenge.

But government action has stalled in the face of Bayer's aggressive campaign. That's why it's so important that we fight for this partial ban in Canada -- it could kick start a push to regulate these dangerous pesticides globally. That's why we need to organize beekeepers and gardeners to counter the campaign of Bayer, and push for a ban.

Yes, I'll chip in $25 to support beekeepers and gardeners and counter Bayer's propaganda campaign.

Thanks for all you do,
