Do You Want to Extend the Patriot Act?

I told Congress to pass the Read the Bills Act using DownsizeDC.org's campaign.

Please do the same. You may borrow from or copy this letter…

In 2001, Congress took less than TWO DAYS between introducing and passing the 342-PAGE Patriot Act (http://1.usa.gov/1nAc2vd). Copies of final version of the bill were delivered just a couple of hours before the vote. Even then, just two copies (one for each political party) were made available (http://bit.ly/1g1D6TW).

That means, nobody had a chance to read or understand the bill. It was INEVITABLY a bad law.

Turns out, it's also the primary "legal" basis of NSA and FBI abuses!

I DO NOT CONSENT to the extension of the Patriot Act. And that's exactly what the USA FREEDOM ACT would allow.

Instead, you must REPEAL it!

Also, you must  PREVENT such lengthy and confusing bills from passing ever again.

That means…

Pass the Read the Bills Act, which…

*  makes bills short and understandable

*  requires public access for SEVEN days before a vote

*  forces YOU to read the bills you support

And for the future… Represent me! DON'T vote for laws you didn't read!

END OF LETTER

You can send your letter using DownsizeDC.org’s Educate the Powerful System.

Then, please consider making a monthly pledge. Monthly pledgers help Downsize DC to plan ahead. And pledges can be any size! We have pledgers who give $1, others who give $250, each month. The average is about $14. One time contributions are very helpful as well. Please use our secure online form.

Thank you for your participation,
