In the last five years, clean wind energy has made up 35 percent of all new power capacity - in large part because of the incentives provided by the Production Tax Credit.

But fossil fuel companies successfully killed the wind industry's most important incentive at the end of last year, and since then the growing wind industry has been brought to a near standstill.

Now, Congress is considering renewing the Production Tax Credit - but fossil fuel companies are lobbying to keep that from happening. Make your voice heard to support wind energy now.

The Wind Production Tax Credit is one of only a handful of positive things that has a real chance to pass during this Congress because it has strong bipartisan support throughout the Midwest, where states like Iowa already generate almost 20% of their power from wind energy. Just last week 144 members of Congress from across the political spectrum sent letters to their colleagues calling for a renewal.1

While the fossil fuel industry's subsidies are literally written into the tax code and haven't expired since they were first put into place, over 100 years ago, the wind industry's Production Tax Credit has needed to be extended by Congress four times in just the last 10 years.2

This has created an unstable boom-and-bust cycle where the wind industry expands rapidly when the tax credit is in place, and then collapses when it expires. Even so, the wind industry has grown 12-fold in the last six years - and, with a long-term extension of the Production Tax Credit, is on pace to generate 20% of US energy and employ 500,000 people by 2030.3

The fossil fuel industry, however, has consistently attacked the Production Tax Credit, and now that it's expired, has been ramping up its campaign to stop it from being renewed in 2014. We can stop them, if we make our voices heard.

Tell Congress: Don't cave to the fossil fuel industry. Extend the Wind Production Tax Credit now. Click here to automatically sign the petition.

Thanks for fighting for clean energy.
