Attack of the Frankenfish

The US is about to approve the first genetically modified fish, opening the global floodgates to mutant fish. But thankfully, the government is legally required to consider public opinion first -- it's now up to us to stop it.

This mutant salmon is creepy -- it grows twice as fast as the real fish, and independent scientists are unable to predict its risks to our health. In fact, it has only been declared safe by the company that created the GMO creature! Groups are sounding the alarm in the US, but to stand up to the biotech lobby and prevent this dangerous thing entering our food chain, it is going to take all of us across the world.

The public consultation is happening right now. Sign urgently to say NO to Frankenfish and send this to everyone -- let's get a million voices officially submitted and stop its release into the world's stores:

The company that developed the Frankenfish altered the DNA of the salmon to create a fish that would grow at lightning speed, year-round. Not only do we not understand its long term health effects, if a few of them or their eggs reached the wild, these super-salmon could decimate entire wild salmon populations. Worse, once they hit supermarkets worldwide, we won’t be able to tell them apart from real salmon, so there won’t be a way to avoid it!

We were already told once that GM crops would not contaminate real crops -- that was proven not to be true. Now the bio-tech industry wants to make Frankenfish their next million dollar baby -- opening the market for other test-tube meats across the world. If we can stun them with a massive global outcry now, when they least expect it, we could stop this US deal and draw a line in the sand for the rest of the world.

We have no time to lose -- Frankenfish is on the verge of being approved. Consumers, fishermen and environmentalists are speaking out. Let’s echo their call by one million and ensure biotech companies don't decide what we eat. Sign up now and share this with everyone:

Avaaz members have come together to protect the natural world and our food system from dangerous meddling. In 2010, over 1 million of us spoke out against genetically modified food in Europe. Let’s come together again to stop Frankenfish.

The US is about to approve the world’s first GM fish, but this mutant has only been declared safe by the company that created it! Their decision could open the floodgates for bio-tech meat worldwide, threaten wild fish populations and pose unknown health risks. But, right now, the government is holding a public consultation. If we bombard it with 1 million objections -- we could stop this Frankenfish:
