Success! Over 120,000 Americans took to the streets yesterday to rally against the Republican-led assault on middle class families and jobs.

That's over 70,000 people who rallied in front of the capital in Madison, Wisconsin, who were joined by over 50,000 Americans in more than 60 cities nationwide -- every single person standing up in solidarity for the America Dream and against the Republicans trying to destroy good-paying jobs.

Let's face it, 2011 is turning into the year of the rally.

From unseating a president in Egypt, to shaping the budget debate in Madison, rallies have become a pillar tactic for our current political climate. It's also the subject of our first Night School online training of the year.

Join DFA National Field Organizer Jay Henderson and Derek Cressman from Common Cause this Wednesday night at 8:30 Eastern for a free online training on how to unleash the power of a well-organized rally.

We're kicking off another semester of free online training to help you take your issue activism to the next level. This semester's focus is Issue Advocacy.

Each week we'll pair up an important issue with an effective tactic, using case studies to demonstrate how to advocate effectively in your area. And each training session is about an hour and can be streamed for free from your computer.

Sessions to follow over the next month include:

  • Pressing for Reform: Earning Media for Your Issue Campaign
  • Digital Empowerment: Winning with Petitions
  • Citizen Advocacy and your Elected Official

The first session starts this Wednesday night and features special guest Derek Cressman from Common Cause who will discuss the keys to putting on an effective rally drawing from his experience helping organize the recent successful rally in Los Angeles against the Koch Brothers.
