There is no union anymore, just a patchwork of interests that overlap in places. We are reaching the point at which there is little to no trust among citizens, at which we are so very close to devolving into dog-eat-dog chaos. Everything is money money money, all the time, with no sign of slowing down, and we are all victims of it.
Even those of us who actually have money are victims of it. It has brought out the worst of us as a country and as a species. The poor rob and murder their brothers and sisters for mere subsistence, while the wealthy rob and murder their brothers and sisters to perpetuate their stream of wealth.
