Subject: TODAY: Join crisis phonecall with UK's PM Brown

Dear friends,

As leaders arrive in Copenhagen, global civil society risks being pushed out of the talks. Without the pressure and scrutiny of civil society and the media, leaders are less likely to make responsible decisions -- if they fail the world, they don't want their citizens on hand to see their failure.

But we just got word that the UK’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown would like to update Avaaz members on the Copenhagen summit and answer some questions from us TODAY (Wednesday), before he sits down with Barack Obama, Germany’s Angela Merkel, China’s Wen Jiabao, President Lula from Brazil and other top leaders.

So we've set up a mass phone-call with UK PM Gordon Brown a few hours from now, and everyone's invited!

Brown took a phone-call from our September 21st flashmob in London’s Parliament Square, and promised to go to Copenhagen and work for a fair, ambitious and binding treaty.

Now, with the summit in danger of failure, he is one of our best hopes to champion a strong deal -- and refuse to accept a weak one. We can use this opportunity to find out more about these fast-moving talks, and send him a clear message that people around the world want him to stay strong for a real deal.

The phone call is at 5.30 European time (4.30 GMT / 11.30 EST) today, and it will last for half an hour. There will be room for around 8-12 of to ask a hopefully representative cross-section of questions.

The Copenhagen World Summit is a moment to narrow the gap between people and leaders, not to widen it. Let’s get Brown in our corner before the final high-level negotiations commence...

With hope,

Paul, Iain, Milena, Ricken, Sam and the whole Avaaz team
