SUBVENTION, ANYONE?

Dr. Edwin Vieira, Jr., Ph.D., J.D.

I heartily dislike—really, despise—asking anyone for financial support for my work. Were any other way available, I should not be publishing this appeal. But my present circumstances and prospects are such that, without the actual provision or some reasonable assurance of significant support in the immediate future, I may finally be compelled to cease working (at more than the “hobby” level), not only on my Militia Project, but also on essentially everything else related to the efforts I have been expending on behalf of restoring constitutional government to this country.

Obviously, I do not want that. Today, however, the value of one’s efforts is measured, and (at least in my case) the ability to continue them, is determined, by how much money those efforts can command, day by day, in “the marketplace for ideas”. What goes out depends on what comes in. In the final analysis, “money talks”—and decides who will talk, about what he will talk, and how large the audience for his talk will be.

Economically these are difficult times, and threaten to become increasingly hard. Most people—certainly among patriots—have precious little money to spare. And many patriotic causes cry out for and deserve support. So I am addressing this appeal solely to those individuals:

--whose constitutional freedoms have enabled them to become economically successful well beyond the position of average Americans;

--who can easily commit some of their surplus wealth to patriotic purposes;

--who have a significant amount to lose—in terms of their own freedom of contract, entrepreneurial activity, untrammeled use of private property, and retention of accumulated wealth—when this country ends up in the grip of a para-militarized police state that revitalization of the Militia could have prevented;

--who are convinced that revitalizing “the Militia of the several States”, for the reasons and along the lines I have advocated, not only is a worthy project in principle, but also is absolutely necessary to this country’s survival in the immediate future;

--who believe that the continuation of my work in particular will materially advance that goal; and

--who, on the basis of my previous output, have confidence that I shall exert my best efforts towards completing this project as soon as possible.

Interested persons may make direct contributions, or contact me to discuss how support might be provided in some other fashion, at:

This appeal will run for thirty (30) days from its date of publication on NewsWithViews.com

I thank in advance those who may see fit to contribute or otherwise assist in response to this appeal. And I fully understand why others may not be able, or may not want, to.

Edwin Vieira, Jr., holds four degrees from Harvard: A.B. (Harvard College), A.M. and Ph.D. (Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences), and J.D. (Harvard Law School).

For more than thirty years he has practiced law, with emphasis on constitutional issues. In the Supreme Court of the United States he successfully argued or briefed the cases leading to the landmark decisions Abood v. Detroit Board of Education, Chicago Teachers Union v. Hudson, and Communications Workers of America v. Beck, which established constitutional and statutory limitations on the uses to which labor unions, in both the private and the public sectors, may apply fees extracted from nonunion workers as a condition of their employment.

He has written numerous monographs and articles in scholarly journals, and lectured throughout the county. His most recent work on money and banking is the two-volume Pieces of Eight: The Monetary Powers and Disabilities of the United States Constitution (2002), the most comprehensive study in existence of American monetary law and history viewed from a constitutional perspective. www.piecesofeight.us

He is also the co-author (under a nom de plume) of the political novel CRA$HMAKER: A Federal Affaire (2000), a not-so-fictional story of an engineered crash of the Federal Reserve System, and the political upheaval it causes. www.crashmaker.com

His latest book is: "How To Dethrone the Imperial Judiciary" ... and Constitutional "Homeland Security," Volume One, The Nation in Arms...

He can be reached at his new address:
