Massive Civil Disobedience Now??
2. There is blood on the floor, and more to come. 100,000 Iraqis are dead. We are poisoning our troops and the people of Iraq with depeleted uranium. An accurate and careful account, including the backloaded casulties from depleted uranium, may now be pushing 1,000,000. They seem to be just starting.
3. The Democrats are to be deemed worthless in this cause. They probably won the election and yet could care less about doing anything to resist. Dean, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy, Carter, Gore-- silence, silence, and more silence. For the most part,only African Americans seem to care so far--Conyers, Jackson, etc. The see the coming evil more clearly because they know how bad it can get.
4. As a Christian, it is clear to me that violence is not yet an option.
The only option then is civil disobedience like Thoreau, King, and Gahndi. Thoureau went to jail for tax evasion during the War on Mexico. King went to jail and was killed for inciting others to protest. I am currently studying the history of non-violent protest to think about other options.
Each of us in their own way must think about whether it is time and how strongly we must resist. I am certain that specific acts of resistance, properly done, will inspire others. I have no answers. The answer is within each of you. But I fear it is time to ask the question.
