Jefferson's admittance of a full blown war, and the state of militant readiness required of "We the People." An entire nation must be literately armed to the teeth to guard their very birthrights. Most of the wise words and warnings of our founding fathers were of defense, not offense. They knew full-well we were under attack, and without a cause.

But, Hey brother! Love your enemy and welcome them with unarmed, open arms when they come to murder, rape and plunder. Your open arms are indication of surrender and an easy target for a slug to the heart! Forgive them!  Your willingness to oblige the enemy was taken as scriptural, turning the cheek. Be a good host. Don't let the thugs leave, without giving them your cloak, too. It's better to give than receive. Amen!

"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed and that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of press." -- Thomas Jefferson
