Fox News host Megyn Kelly claims she and her family have been under “armed guard” – receiving death threats and obscene phone calls – and she blames President-elect Donald Trump and his social media director, Dan Scavino, for the campaign of intimidation against her.

“The vast majority of Trump supporters are not this way,” Kelly told a crowd Monday evening at Politics and Prose, a Washington, D.C., book store.

“It’s that far corner of the Internet that really enjoys nastiness and threats, and, unfortunately, there is a man who works for Donald Trump whose job it is to stir these people up, and that man needs to stop doing that. His name is Dan Scavino.”

The U.K. Guardian reported Scavino has indicated he might become the White House photographer or take charge of its Twitter account.

Kelly, who is currently promoting her tell-all book, “Settle for More,” also accused Trump of shouting at her on the phone in August, screaming, “You’re a disgrace! You ought to be ashamed of yourself! You’re a disgrace! I almost unleashed my beautiful Twitter account against you and I still may!”

As WND reported, days later, Kelly moderated the first Republican primary debate and took aim at Trump all evening, at one point accusing him of waging a war on women: “You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals. … Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women’s looks. You once told a contestant on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president, and how will answer the charge from Hillary Clinton … that you are part of the war on women?”

After the debate, Trump called Kelly “overrated” and retweeted a supporter’s social-media post that referred to her as a”bimbo,” saying she “had blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”

On Monday, Kelly said Trump’s response was “an attempt at bullying” and subsequent death threats made it difficult for her to give him fair coverage.

“It was hard to hold the line night after night after night and not cover him too harshly, because my life was being threatened, and not cover him too gently, because I wanted him to stop the nonsense or to please him,” she said, according to the Guardian.

Kelly continued, “When Donald Trump comes after you, it isn’t just a tweet – ‘Oh, wow, he’s tweeting about her,’ and I understand he’s a fighter, he’s a counter-puncher, I get all that – but even then he has such power that a single tweet can unleash hell in somebody’s life.

“I’ve been under armed guard for 16 months and my children have been under armed guard, and it’s not an appropriate price to pay for hard-hitting journalism.”

Members of the crowd who attended the Monday event were forced to endure body and bag searches for security reasons.

As WND reported on Oct. 25, Kelly called Trump a “sexual predator” in an interview with former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a statement that unleashed an epic smackdown in the annals of political television.

Kelly’s contract with Fox News ends in July of next year. She said she’s considering leaving the network to spend more time with her family.

Some reports indicated she may leave Fox for CNN. On Dec. 1, the Drudge Report reported CNN chief Jeff Zucker is “actively pursuing” Kelly to anchor an 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. show that would compete with Fox’s Bill O’Reilly.

As WND reported in November, O’Reilly suggested Kelly may be making Fox News “look bad” with allegations published in her book claiming former CEO Roger Ailes sexually harassed her.

According to Drudge, a source claimed Zucker is “moving the Himalayan mountains” to get Kelly but cannot match a $20 million offer from Fox.

“The anchor is ‘despised’ by fellow on-air talent,” Drudge wrote in an exclusive report. “And Fox insiders describe how it’s only gotten worse since the release of her new book … Zucker at CNN would compensate her salary with heavy promotion and synergy across all Time Warner outlets.”

The next day, Kelly didn’t deny Drudge’s story. Rather, she tweeted: “Many reporters are writing articles about me and my future at Fox. Don’t believe a thing u hear unless it comes from me, period.”
