The New York Time of all places summarized the key elements to a Soviet-style disinformation campaign and these 7 key elements are the commandments of fake news.

These 7 key elements were used to push a false Covid-19 narrative, to lockdown the United States, to destroy the economy, and to give China a competitive advantage without ever having to fire a shot. They were also used to push the false Russia narrative against President Trump
The first key element is to “Look for Cracks in target societies.” In the United States, the political and social divide created by the media and political elites provides the perfect environment for fake news to spread.
KEY ELEMENT 2: Create a BIG Lie
An example of this would be the perpetuation that Russia worked alongside President Trump to secure him the victory in 2016. This was perpetrated by our political elites, Adam Schiff and Hilary Clinton to name some of the key players.
KEY ELEMENT 3: Wrap the Lie in a Kernel of Truth
Russia did try to influence the election, but no evidence ever pointed to cooperation between the Trump campaign and Russia. However, this was true and aided the media in pushing this narrative.
